Results of the Photo Contest for JVS/AVS 2025 cover pictures

The winners of the Photo Contest for JVS/AVS 2025 cover pictures are Lucia Čahojová and Markus Neupert. Here are the new journal covers with their photographs. The forerunners are Kryštof Chytrý, Veradina Nacheva, Denys Vynokurov and Anaclara Guido.

The alpine grassland on Mount Raduha in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps (Slovenia) occurs on limestone with a significant admixture of siliceous minerals, resulting in a species-rich plant community consisting of both acidophilous and basiphilous plants. Photo credit: Lucia Čahojová.
The floating mat in the Chabannes bog in Corrèze, France, is the result of water-retention infrastructure installed in the 1980s, which lifted the bog off the bottom. Photo credit: Markus Neupert.
The role of microtopography in controlling where plants can and cannot grow is well known. However, we often overlook the processes on a coarser scale. These are often related to metapopulation and metacommunity dynamics and could be crucial for the distribution changes of alpine plants. This picture shows a strong mesotopographic gradient from gravel bars to shrublands on Mount Schrankogel (Austria). Photo credit: Kryštof Chytrý.
A local endemic species of the northern Pirin Mts. (Bulgaria), Oxytropis kozhuharovii, occurs on rock outcrops on the boundary between marble and metamorphic volcanic rocks. It has only one known population, showing ecological flexibility as it is distributed both in open grasslands and chasmophytic vegetation. Photo credit: Veradina Nacheva.
Dry grasslands near Veles, North Macedonia. This unique region, known as the Macedonian Steppe, features vast areas of steppe-like vegetation shaped over centuries by human influence and sustained today by moderate sheep grazing. Photo credit: Denys Vynokurov.
Grasslands in eastern Uruguay, which are part of the Río de la Plata grasslands of South America, one of the most extensive natural grassland areas of the world. Photo credit: Anaclara Guido.
