JVS and AVS are looking for new members of the Editorial Review Boards

The Journal of Vegetation Science (JVS) and Applied Vegetation Science (AVS) are seeking colleagues interested in serving on the Editorial Review Boards of the journals. We welcome all vegetation scientists with experience in international scientific publishing, and as we aim at diverse and dynamic Editorial Review Boards, we particularly encourage people based outside Europe, early-career researchers and women to apply.
What do we expect from the Editorial Review Board members?
Editorial Review Board members are early career or established scientists who perform a vital role in the peer review process of our journals. They participate in annual editorial meetings and serve as trusted reviewers for Associate Editors.
Editorial Review Board members review, on average, six submitted manuscripts per year. Each review should be delivered within three weeks from receipt. The manuscript sent for review should be close to the expertise of the respective Editorial Review Board member. If an Editorial Review Board member is unsure how to evaluate a particular manuscript, he or she can contact the respective Associate Editor for advice. The Editorial Review Board member can decline the invitation if he or she is busy or unfamiliar with the topic.
Editorial Review Board members are also expected to raise awareness of the journal and encourage colleagues to submit their best manuscripts in the field of vegetation science to JVS and AVS.
Editorial Review Board members are invited and encouraged to attend the JVS/AVS Editorial Meeting held annually during the Symposium of the International Association for Vegetation Science. They also receive newsletters with information on editorial matters.
The list of Editorial Review Board members is published on the journal website, along with institutional affiliation and a brief scientific profile. Each new member is invited to serve an initial two-year term, which can be extended. When the journals appoint new Associate Editors, they are usually selected among the most active members of the Editorial Review Board.
How to apply?
Fill in the application form at https://muni.cz/go/jvs-avs and send it along with a two-page CV and a list of publications (PDF or Word format) to the JVS/AVS Chair of Editors Milan Chytrý (chytry@sci.muni.cz) by 30 September 2022. Applications will be evaluated based on the applicants’ scientific merit, and selected applicants will be invited to join the Editorial Review Board, also taking into account the required balance between different types of expertise, world regions and genders. All applicants will be notified of the decision by 31 October 2022.
